Fishies Ben, Andrew and I contributed (I know, this is an assumption...) to the utter destruction of the "canadian curse" that has prevented canadian teams from winning the San Francisco Dragon Boat festival for all of its 10 years. Dangerous When Wet (DWW) sent 2 teams to San Francisco. We were on the "Good" DWW team which claimed a bronze in the Comp A final. The "Better" DWW team snatched the gold, with Toronto's Jet Start rounding out the Canadian Comp A medal sweep with the silver. Stiff competition came in the form of 3 San Fran Dragon Warriors crews, 3 Portland Wasabi crews and my friends from the United German team, some of whom had been at the CCWC in Toronto. The DWW2 upset of the premier Dragon Warrior team (CCWC paddlers) was the biggest shock, but Ben, Andrew and I finally decided to put in some real effort and focus to get us ahead of them by a little over a tenth of a second. Sweet. For once, Ben did not start looking around and coaching just before the finish line...

Look for the results here:

and read www.dragonboatwest.net for more comments.

All in all, one of the best festivals I've been to. Especially returning with a BRONZE comp A and GOLD men's medal. Even if Ben (sick) and I (injured) sat on the 11th bench (the shore) for the men's race. ahhh....

And from the Conan the Barbarian (mis)quotes department...
Khitan General (Wayne): We have won again. That is good! But what is best in life?
Khitan Warrior (Brad): The open steppe, fleet horse, falcon on your wrist, wind in your hair! (i.e., Getting bumped to business class while flying standby on Air Canada to the San Fran dragon boat festival)
Khitan General (Wayne): Wrong! Conan, what is best in life?
Conan (Dom):To crush your enemies competition, see them driven before behind you, and to hear the lamentation of their women coaches!
Khitan General (Wayne): That is good.

(Note that this is actually a paraphrased quote from Genghis Khan)
